Buratai Visits Victorious Nigerian Troops In Gambo

Jerrywright Ukwu Yesterday Nigeria’s chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, recently displayed courage by spending the night in Gamboru town, Borno state, a former hotbed of terrorist group, Boko Haram.
Buratai addressing Nigerian troops in GamboruBuratai addressing Nigerian troops in Gamboru The town which is close to Nigeria’s border with Cameroon has witnessed so many attacks by the insurgents and at one point was fully occupied by them for a year with their flags hoisted in strategic parts of the town. Prepares For Final Battle Just last week, the town was recaptured by the Nigerian troops after fierce battles with the terrorists, and to show his solidarity with his subordinates, the army chief visited the town and went ahead to spend the night there. According to Premium Times, Buratai also ordered the hoisting of Nigerian flags in the sleepy town and also had journalists in his entourage. Buratai’s move is reportedly the first of its kind in Nigeria, where military leaders prefer to take the back seat and give orders to troops in the battle field. To ensure the trip was safe for the army chief, an advance team made up of the explosive ordinance department of the Nigerian Army had to check Buratai’s entourage routes for land mines. And indeed, many land mines buried by the terrorists were unearthed and defused by the bomb experts. But it came with some consequences, as one of the landmines went off, injured some soldiers and destroyed one of the Armoured Personnel Carriers. On arriving the town at about 5pm on the said day, Buratai addressed the troops who were in upbeat mood following their victory, after which everyone at the venue sang the Nigerian National Anthem.“We are here today to observe this significant and symbolic ceremony of hoisting the Nigerian national flag,” he said.”If you could remember, this town of Gamboru was occupied by the Boko Haram terrorists for almost one year ago. The Chadian troops came to help recapture it but could not hold the town, so they later withdrew and the Boko Haram returned again. “In line with my vision which is to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army that is abreast of its constitutional roles, and one key underlying phrase in my mission is the constitutional role, today, under my command, we are here to discharge and redeem our territorial integrity as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “Today we are hoisting our flag and we will never allow any bunch of criminals in the name of Boko Haram to come and take an inch of our territory again.” “I will like to commend officers and soldiers of the Operation Lafiya Dole, especially the officers and men of 7 Division and indeed the 7 Division Strike Group, who have proved to be resilient, dedicated and highly patriotic. Nigerians are proud of you, Nigerian Army is proud of you and indeed Mr. President is very proud of you. “We have to maintain the momentum and from now on you must maintain an aggressive posture to constant patrols along this routes and all other routes into this area.” 124 Boko Haram Detainees Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari recently commenced an investigation into all equipment and other logistics bought by the Nigerian Army from 2010 to 2015.

NASU tips Ambali for higher national assignment

Delegates to the Quadrennial Conference of the Universities Trade Group Council of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have recommended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), to the Federal Government for a position of higher responsibility on account of his proven skills, intellect and humane dispositions. Comrade Adefemi urged the delegates to challenge the managements of their various universities with the standards that they met at the University of Ilorin. He noted that in a time of positive change such as Nigeria is experiencing now, bad people should be replaced by good people such as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin since there is no second term provision for Vice -Chancellors. Earlier, the NASU General Secretary in charge of Universities Trade Group, Comrade Felix Ajayi, commended the management of the University of Ilorin for refurbishing the NASU bus, saying that the Vice-Chancellor had made NASU comfortable by the gesture. In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the University of Ilorin Branch of NASU, Comrade (Mrs.) Olabisi Fadeke Adeshina, expressed her delight to host the event at an institution that is known for its peaceful environment, learning and development. The management of the University of Ilorin is working assiduously to produce graduates with entrepreneurial skills.

This was disclosed last Wednesday (September 9, 2015) by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), at the 2014/2015 SIWES Projects Exhibition of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology students. Prof. Ambali, who spoke through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research Technology and Innovation), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji, said that the management of the University was committed to guaranteeing a better future for the institution's alumni. The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the staff and students of the Faculty for putting in their best as he described the action as very paramount. In a chat with Unilorin Bulletin after the exhibition, the representative of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Sunday David Oguniyi, said that the experience the students gathered is to make them their own boss after graduation. Prof. Ogunniyi also said that the action is part of the training programme for any Engineering student of the University as contained in the University curriculum. He appealed to the management for materials because most of the students spend their personal money to facilitate their projects. Some of the projects on exhibition included the Better by far liquid soap and the Better by far disinfectant manufactured by the Chemical Engineering Unit; brake drum for cars manufactured from aluminum wastes by the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Unit, as well as the mp3 player produced from scrap computer system. I Recovered Money Stolen By Abacha – Obasanjo

Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he returned about N287billion stolen by former dictator, Sani Abacha before he left office in May, 2007. Olusegun Obasanjo during the presentation of ‘My watch’ Obasanjo served two terms of eight years as Nigeria’s president and left office in 2007 to the now late former president Umaru Yar’Adua. The N287bn figure was appeared at using an average exchange rate of N125.88 to a dollar in 2007 and an average exchange rate of N247.99 to a pound in the same year. The ex-president said the assets were paid into the treasury through the Central Bank of Nigeria. The disclosure was contained in the Vol. II of Obasanjo’s autobiography ‘My Watch’. Former president wrote: ”In total, by the time I left government in May 2007, over $2bn and £100m had been recovered from the Abacha family abroad, and well over N10bn in cash and properties locally. All were paid to the public treasury through the Central Bank. ”Enrico (Monfrini, a Swiss lawyer) told me by the time I left government that if he continued to get support for his work, there was still about $1bn he believed he could still recover from the Abacha family and cronies. Obasanjo said that there was a time he received a report that £3m cash was taken from an agent of the late military dictator by customs officials at an airport in UK and that the British authorities asked the Nigerian administration to prove possession of the money. Meanwhile, he said the British authorities denied to release the money to Nigeria despite showing details that it was taken from the CBN. “I went to London to have a meeting on another important issue with (former British Prime Minister) Tony Blair and I took the opportunity to raise the issue of the £3m, using the Yoruba anecdote of the thief who stole palm oil from the ceiling cupboard by getting somebody to help him so as not to spill the red palm oil on himself or the floor. The man who assisted became an accomplice. Tony got the message and the £3m was released to Nigeria the following day,” Obasanjo noted. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, an ex-minister of finance in the Obasanjo government, said last year through her special adviser that contrary to reports that the sum of $2bn was recovered from the Abacha’s loot, only $500m was recovered under her as Obasanjo’s finance minister.

You Didn't Campaign For Buhari - APC Attacks Okorocha

The South-East chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha of not truly campaigning for President Muhammadu Buhari or the party in the build up to the March 28 presidential/National Assembly elections. The party also said Okorocha should be held responsible for the region’s exclusion in appointments made by President Buhari, This Day reports. This was disclosed in a statement by the party’s spokesman in the South-East, Osita Okechukwu, and made available to journalists in Enugu. Okechukwu was reacting to an interview granted to a national daily by Okorocha, published on yesterday, where he said Ndigbo were responsible for their inability to secure any appointments so far in in appointments Buhari’s administration. Okorocha had said: “Some of the appointments we lost were of the doings of our people .” Reacting to this, the APC spokesman challenged the governor to take responsibility for Igbo exclusion in the appointments, rather than passing the buck to Ndigbo. Okechukwu said: “Methinks that while we blame Ndigbo for putting all our eggs in one basket, we should blame our leaders who genuinely didn’t campaign for President Buhari nor APC candidates in their domain. “I challenge Governor Okorocha to tell the world how far he assisted Senator Osita Izunaso on his bid for Orlu senatorial district, his own constituency and that of Hon. Uche Onyeguocha and Uwajimogu of Owerri and Okigwe districts respectively.” According to Okechukwu, the APC could have gotten APC two senatorial seats, and other legislative seats, with a little assistance from Okorocha. He stated that if the governor had really cried like a lonely voice in the wilderness for Ndigbo to vote for Buhari as he claims, Buhari would have gotten at least 30 per cent of the votes cast in Imo State and not 18 per cent. “If Okorocha worked for APC in the South-east, how come we did not even win a single senatorial seat in Imo and the entire zone ?” he queried. The APC spokesman therefore, advised Okorocha to stop playing the blame game and accept responsibility for the fate of Ndigbo in Buhari’s appointments. Okorocha is the only governor from the South-east geopolitical zone, who is a member of the APC and supported President Buhari during the 2015 polls and he prides himself as the leader of the APC in the South-east. About a week ago, there were reports that Bola Tinubu, the national chairman of the ruling APC, had a clash with Okorocha over one of the ministerial appointments of President Buhari.

Amaechi, Fayemi, Fashola Fail Anti-corruption test

As the screening of President Muhammadu Buhari ministers continue , some appointees have reportedly failed to pass anti-corruption test. The Department of State Service (DSS) recently received a much awaited list of 36 ministerial nominees for security screening. While DSS carries on the screening indications appeared that three immediate past governors, Babatunde Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi and Kayode Fayemi, have supposedly failed. Three former governors worked hard for Buhari’s presidential campaign to and were seen as top candidates for positions in the government. Nigerian Pilot reports that the DSS did not clear three ministerial appointees based on claims of corruption brought against them before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC). The source said that the security agency supposedly denied to clear Amaechi, Fashola, Fayemi because of a series of petitions written against them over accusations bordering on money laundering, fraud and misuse. The insider further added that when the trio appeared before the screening committee, they were opposed with the appeals and other related documents attached to the petitions. They reportedly have received orders from Buhari that any of the appointees with any harmful and fraud related issues should not be cleared by the security agency. Festus Odimegwu, a former managing director of Nigerian Breweries Limited, and a former presidential candidate, Pat Utomi, are also among the ministerial appointees that have been screened. Those already said to have been screened as nominees for President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet also include a former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and a Lagos-lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN). Also on the list are a former Chief of Army, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazu (retd.); an ex-chief executive of the Federal Inland Revenue, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okaru; a former finance commissioner in Lagos State, Mr. Wale Edun; and a former National Legal Adviser to the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, Abubakar Malami (SAN). According to some sources Falana was favoured by a camp in the party to emerge as the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation. A top APC chieftain said the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had persuaded Buhari to appoint Falana. Tinubu and Osinbajo were said to have told Buhari that appointing Falana, who he jailed over 30 years ago, would boost his image as a ‘converted democrat.’ It was, however, learnt that Malami was being favoured by the President. The APC has three former governors in Ekiti State: Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi. “Falana has already been screened by the DSS. However, Buhari is closer to Malami who is from the North,” a source from APC said. Utomi, a famous economist and former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, had been screened by the DSS and the police. Edun, who served under former Tinubu as Lagos state governor, had also been screened by security agencies. Odimegwu, nominated by the president, fell out with former president Goodluck Jonathan when he openly criticised the federal government. Odimegwu is also close to former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Oyinlola, a one-time secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, defected to the APC shortly before the Osun State governorship election and he is a close associate of Obasanjo. Another appointee, who asked not to be named, said: “Although I have met the director-general of the DSS twice, I don’t think such visits could be regarded as screening. “I understand the service has done its research on ministerial nominees. For now, nobody is sure of anything until the names are announced.” See full list below: 1. Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Osun State governor and ousted PDP national secretary. 2. Chief Bode Mustapha, former PDP National Auditor and an APC chieftain from Ogun state 3. Engineer Segun Oni, former Ekiti state governor and APC deputy national chairman (South West) 4. Kayode Fayemi, the immediate past governor of Ekiti state 5. Abba Ruma, a former Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources 6. Chief Kanu Agabi, a former Minister of Justice. 7. Donald Duke, a former Governor of Cross River state 8. Babatunde Fashola, the immediate past governor of Lagos state 9. Yinka Folashade Oredola 10. Isaiah Danjuma, son of General Theophilus Danjuma from Taraba state. 16. Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation. 17. Kehinde Lawanson, a former executive director of First Bank. 18. Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), former Minster of Justice President Buhari had in Ghana reassured Nigerians and the international community that his cabinet is a must in September. In the lists of supposed ministers, which were circulating in the media, Fashola was predicted as AGF/Minister of Justice, while earlier he was supposed as minister of works and housing. Under the former governor state administration beholden $1.02bn which signifies 33.86 % of the country’s total sub-national external debts. Ex-governor of Rivers state was set to become new secretary to the government. Amaechi was also accused of dropping state into massive external indebtedness by a coalition of non-governmental organisations interested in transparency and responsibility in governance. Former governor of Ekiti state was also expected to play a key role in Buhari’s cabinet.

Ex-Governors Under EFCC Radar

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) looks set to dock more ex-governors who have questionable records in line President Muhammadu Buhari’s quest to recover the country’s stolen monies. This follows rigorous grilling already dished out to ex-governors like Martin Elechi, former governor of Ebonyi state and Sullivan Chime, former governor of Enugu state. On the heels of alleged laundering of state funds, three ex-governors may also been in EFCC’s watch list. These former governors whose cases may be seriously considered by the EFCC include Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, Isa Yuguda of Bauchi state and Gabriel Suswam of Benue state. Interestingly, the three former governors reportedly left the country shortly after the change of government in their respective states on May 29. However, the EFCC may cash-in on the anti-corruption posturing of President Buhari to press charges against these ex-governors. In Niger state, the new government led by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has asked for the immediate refund of the N2.9 billion, allegedly obtained illegally by the immediate past government on the eve of departure.
Former Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state According to reports, Aliyu left a debt of N57bn for his successor. This immediately prompted the Niger state House of Assembly directive to Governor Bello to probe how his predecessor the state’s resource when he held sway as governor for eight years. In July, six vehicles allegedly taken away without due diligence of the law by the former governor Aliyu Babaginda and his wife Hajiya Jummai Babangida Aliyu, were recovered at their Abuja home. This was disclosed in a statement by Ibrahim Dooba, the chief press secretary to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello. The governor’s spokesperson said the vehicles were two Range Rover Jeeps, two saloons and a Mercedes Benz station wagon, as well as Hilux van recovered from one of his aides. The EFCC is said to have started the probe of numerous petitions filed against the former governor, all bothering on alleged corrupt enrichment at the expense of the state’s resources.
In the similar vein, the current government of Bauchi state is said to be pushing for investigation by the EFCC of former governor Isa Yuguda on alleged treasury looting. Ex Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State Just before handing over, a special committee set up by Governor Mohammed Abubakar found out that ex-governor Isa Yuguda gave out 64 cars to politicians, former commissioners, special advisers and top civil servants. The state government in a statement last month revealed that over 70 vehicles, N600 million in generators and a number of air conditioners were recovered from officials of the administration of the former governor Isa Yuguda. This came after the state government had seized 22 vehicles from the four wives of the former governor.
In Benue state, former governor Gabriel Suswam disclosed that his administration will be leaving a debt profile of N9.2bn behind for the present administration of Samuel Ortom just before l eaving the country on President Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration ceremony. ex-governor of Benue state Gabriel Suswam Governor Ortom who could not stomach the alleged looting of the state’s treasury was left with no other option than to go borrowing. In July, the former first lady of the state Yemisi Suswam was alleged to have looted N100million worth of property. Gabriel Suswam may currently be under watch by the anti-graft agencies following the allegations of high level of pillaging of state’s treasury levelled against him. The EFCC had earlier swooped three former governors alongside their sons over the alleged financial sleaze that occurred in the administration of the former state chief executives.

Buhari Reportedly Directs Ministerial List To DSS

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly submitted a list of 36 ministerial nominees to the Department of State Services (DSS) for screening. The Punch reported on Wednesday, September 9, that at least 20 of the candidates had already been vetted by the agency. The screening procedure reportedly involves career background check and examination of records with anti-corruption and security bodies. Although the names of the nominees are yet to be provided, a corresponded said the it includes mainly those who had worked with President Buhari when he served in the military and was the chairman of the Petroleum Trust Fund. When contacted, the presidency however gave a sketchy reply to the question whether the nominees list had been directed to the DSS. Buhari’s media aide Femi Adesina said: “Security screening is naturally a behind-the-scenes matter, thanks.” One of the All Progressives Congress chieftains who pleaded for anonymity explained: “The truth is that the President is someone who believes in due process. “His choice of Daura (Lawal Daura), a member of the old guard, as the DG DSS should tell you something; even those contacted for screening know that any leak of information traced to them could ruin their chances.” It should be recalled that Buhari has several times stated he will appoint ministers in September. This followed criticism by Nigerians that after 100 days in office he had still failed to name cabinet. Speaking last Monday in Ghana the president referred to his previous pledge saying: “When cabinet ministers are appointed in September, it will be some months after I took the oath of office… “After I was sworn-in, I said I will have my cabinet in September. I expect that Nigerians should ask me questions after the 30th of September if I do not do so.” Later on, in his interview with BBC Hausa, Buhari stated categorically: “I said within this month. Therefore, I still have three weeks.” Meanwhile APC national leader Bola Tinubu yesterday addressed journalists after a closed-door meeting with Buhari. Regarding the cabinet issue, he lamented over the pressure put by some adding they could not afford making mistakes by rushing things.

Breaking: Crane Collapse Kills 87, Injures Over 201 In Mecca [PICTURES]

A crane collapse at a mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, has killed over 87 persons and left at least 201 wounded in what is best described as a chaotic situation. The casualties from the incident are rising, the Saudi Civil Defense authority says. Images from the location show what is left of the wreckage following the incident in which a red crane crashed and knocked the mosque down through its roof, the BBC reports. The Guardian says the governor of Mecca region, Prince Khaled al-Faisal, has started an immediate inquiry into the incident. Reuters say the crane collapse is most likely as a result of unstable weather conditions, as the Saudi city has been disturbed by heavy sand storms lately.
According to an Al Jazeera correspondent, the crash occurred just before the 6:30PM prayer, and the mosque in question was filled to capacity. Tens of ambulances were seen driving to the crash site, even as the people around looked aggrieved.
The holy city of Mecca is presently making plans for the annual Muslim Hajj pilgrimage, which starts later this month, with a great population expected to make it to the Saudi City from across the world. Moreover, conversion to Christianity by a Muslim in Afghanistan and Iran could be punished by death or imprisonment, that’s why refugees believe that Germany wouldn’t deport them back home. The letter reads in part: “The Federal Government’s directive as contained in Circular Ref. No. SGF.19/S.81/XIX/964 on the dissolution of the Governing Boards of the Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, Institutions and Government-owned companies remains extant. “In view of this directive, the FCT Permanent Secretary has directed the former Chairman of the FCT IRS to hand over all duties and responsibilities of his office as well as government belongings in his possession to the Director of Treasury, FCT, while the Chairmen of the Secondary Education Board and Universal Basic Education Board should hand over all duties and responsibilities of their offices as well as government belongings in their possession to the Directors/Secretaries of SEB and UBEB respectively.” Meanwhile, the contributions of the officials to the development of the Federal Capital Territory was appreciated by the FCT Administration, with well wishes for them in their future endevours. Since President Buhari came to power in May 29, swearing to fight corruption, there have been series of sacks of top officials in the public sector, as the president has said he will neither condone corruption nor incompetence in his regime. The sack of the IRS chairman and members of the education board is the latest in a series of appointments terminated by the president, a move that many say is bringing back sanity to agencies and the public sector in general. However, some Nigerians have said that the Buhari ‘axe of justice’ must be wield fairly and not with any political bias. Dele Momodu, a former presidential candidate and journalist, said the president must not use the mantra of change and anti-corruption to witch hunt, but rather ensure that justice is served in all fairness regardless of person or party.

Horror! Police Discover 4 Dead Bodies In Awka.

The Anambra state police command has made a shocking discovery in a room along Olisa Onyeka Crescent, Commissioner’s quarters, Ifite, Awka. Newsday reports that police discovered four already decomposing bodies in a room on Tuesday, September 8. The team of police officers, led by the state commissioner of police, Hassan Karma, alongside an ambulance and some morticians, broke the door of the room and discovered four female dead bodies. The women died in the room without any injuries or signs that suggested any struggle leading to their deaths. One of the dead women was identified as the occupant of the room, Chinwe Obi, an employee of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission INEC, Awka. According to reports made available by tenants and the landlady of the house, Mrs Obi had only stayed in the room for 11 months. She lost her husband on Friday, September 4, in the same room. The other three women were said to be church members who came to sympathize with Mrs Obi. The owner of the building, Ify Onyebumuo, told newsmen how she was telephoned by one of the tenants who said Mrs Obi has not been seen in the house since Saturday. She further revealed how the tenants had told her of the strange awful water dropping out from Mrs Obi’s room, adding that Mrs Obi had not picked up her phone since Sunday. The caretaker of the building, Ignatius Machie, said he was also contacted by some tenants who told him they suspected people had died in the room. Machie confirmed that the deceased’s husband who died on Friday had been taken to the mortuary before the unfortunate tragedy. Confirming the incident, CP Hassan said Mr Obi, who lives in Cotonou, died in the same room when he visited last Friday. He said that the other three women whose identities had not been disclosed were her fellow church members who came to sympathize with her over the death of her husband. Hassan said that though the police were still investigating the mysterious deaths, it is suspected that generator fumes or food poisoning might have caused their deaths. The commissioner disclosed that the remains of soup in a pot found in the room had been taken for investigation, while their bodies taken to a mortuary in Awka were also being examined. Meanwhile, about 200 students who wrote the post-UTME at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra state, reportedly collapsed due to exhaustion while writing the exam on Monday, September 7.

SCARY PHOTOS: Trailers Causing Havoc On Lagos Roads

With the recent spate of accidents in Lagos caused by heavy-duty vehicles, the government places a ban on their operation during the day. These trailers in the space of two weeks have recorded fatal accidents. Just a week ago, a trailer skid off a bridge in Ojuelegba and landed on two vehicles, crushing the occupants. It is obvious however that the directive of the state government to trailer operators not to ply the road between 6am to 9pm is not being followed as these heavy-duty vehicles still continue about their normal duties during the day. Photojournalist Michael Obasa provide pictures that show that the law is not firmly adhered to.

Ohanaeze To Keyamo: Apologise To Igbos

Ohs The popular Human rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo has been asked to apologise to Igbo people for his recent comment describing the outrage from the Igbos concerning their exclusion in President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments as ”noise making.” According to Daily Post, the instruction to Keyamo was given to him by the youth wing of the popular pan Igbo socio-cultural association, Ohanaeze Ndigbo (Ohanaeze Youth Council). While defending Buhari’s appointments recently, Keyamo had said :“ We the elite should not be moved by this noise and selfish agenda. Imagine a whole ethnic group campaigning for a position! Initially, they said chief of staff, then SGF. “Now, with all the noise they have been making since May 29, imagine if one person from that region is appointed to that position. That person will then see himself as a champion of his ethnic group and his kinsmen will descend on that office in the area of contracts and gifts.” In a statement released by the group in Umuahia, Abia state today, September 7, and signed by its president, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze described Keyamo as “a desperate political sycophant who sees insulting Ndigbo as the fasted way to get the attention of Buhari for consideration for political appointment”. ”The likes of Keyamo will shamelessly deny obvious truths for selfish interest and political patronage. Ordinarily we would not like to join issues with the likes of Keyamo as doing so will dignify him but we only want to warn him against the dangers of fighting a whole tribe. “It is a pity that a lawyer like Keyamo who should know better has decided to see nothing wrong with the deliberate exclusion of a whole geopolitical zone from the over 30 key political appointments so far made by Buhari since he came on board,” parts of the statement read. Three days ago, Keyamo, has called on Buhari to set up a high-level inquiry to investigate the nefarious activities of oil marketers and airlines who use house-hold kerosene as aviation fuel.

MASSOB Issues Warning To Ohaneze.

A faction of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned the Igbo socio-political group, Ohaneze Ndigbo, and other groups agitating for positions for Igbo representation in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Daily Sun reports that the warning was contained in a statement made by Uchenna Madu, the national director of information of the factional MASSOB, on Wednesday, September 9. The group called on the Ohaneze Youth Council, political elite, traditional and religious leaders in Igboland to desist from making demands for political privileges from Buhari. MASSOB also stated that Festus Keyamo was right when he described the Igbo leaders and socio-political groups demanding for the office of secretary to the federal government as “noise makers”. “Even though President Buhari has a personal dislike and animosity against Biafrans, Ndigbo are the architect of their political humiliation in President Buhari’s administration because of their individual selfishness, personal ego and lust for money. “President Buhari is very, very right in relegating Ndigbo to their current political status in Nigerian governance. Some Igbo political, traditional, religious, market and youth leaders blindly bagged their eggs of political and economical future in Nigeria in a fragile, demoralized and unsteady leader called Jonathan Goodluck, who glaringly crashed heavily with the Igbo political and economic eggs,” the statement read in part. According to the group, Buhari was paying Ndigbo back for not voting for him and the All Progressives Congress during the general election. “These Igbo men openly and shamefully campaigned for Goodluck Jonathan who politically deceived Ndigbo, even Chief Ralph Uwazuruike (Factional MASSOB leader) the self-acclaimed agitator/liberator of Biafra, shamefully and openly campaigned for Goodluck Jonathan to continue in office as Nigerian President till 2019, while impoverished MASSOB members and Ndigbo earnestly wanted [to establish]Biafra before 2015 as Nigeria Amalgamation [reached its centenary] in 2014. Partisan politics has diminished Ohaneze Ndigbo. “The silence of these selfish Igbo political leaders since President Buhari’s administration is an open acceptance of political defeat and self-condemnation associated with political inferiority complex. “Some Igbo political, traditional, religious and economic leaders will continue to blindly wallop in Nigeria’s political wilderness until they rediscover the courage of Ojukwuism as enshrined in the spirit of Biafran consciousness. The unrelenting and undeterred spirit of no surrender, no retreat,” the statement concluded. Earlier this week, MASSOB asked the federal government to cooperate with its leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, for peace to reign in the South East and the entire country. Meanwhile, Uwazuruike has accused the president of marginalising the people of the Southeast zone as manifested in his current appointments.

Tinubu Speaks About Ministerial List.

Shortly after the closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari the national leader of the ruling party Bola Tinubu addressed journalists. The ex-governor of Lagos state was answering to a question on the reported struggles by him and Atiku Abubakar, former vice president, to become APC BoT chairman. Tinubu said that no such competition have place in the party and that the party is focussed on supporting President Buhari in accomplishing his goal of changing Nigeria. He said: “Don’t listen to rumors, there is no struggle. Our party is not even looking at the direction of power struggle or anything of such. “The support structure is to encourage and support the president as you have heard from Chief Bisi Akande, to help him institutionalize his goal, principle and vision for a new Nigeria.” On those complaining about postponement in the formation of Buhari’s cabinet, Tinubu added: “There is pitfall in rushing, quick fix, depending upon the depth of the rot. And that rush can cascade into mistakes of unimaginable magnitude. There is equally glory and recovery in slowness, when you have a slow fix of a bad foundation. “So to me, I would rather take the one that will last the country and endure for a longer period of time than the rush hour shopping.” APC chairman also disagreed with the opposition party that claim that Nigerian leader was dictatorial. “I disagree with that. He was elected on a platform of democracy, he has adhered to rule of law so far. What is dictatorship about what he has done? He has helped to stimulate the economy in the various states and that is where the people are. So what is dictatorship?” Tinubu asked. “And the institutional paralysis had occurred in the country. It is very important for a steady man like the President to really help the nation recover from the paralysis and that is what he is doing. So I don’t see what is dictatorial about that.” “If they don’t have anything to say, they rather be quiet. They created what is wrong here today and we can’t sweep that under the carpet. There must be rule of law, ” ex-governor added. Bola Tinubu has recently denied allegations that he has been making demands of President Buhari on whom the latter should appoint to his administration.

Olise Speak Up After His First Win As Eagles' Coach

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed satisfaction with the level of play by his players in his first win as the team’s coach.
The Nigerian side had played out a goalless draw against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match last weekend, but bounced back to defeat Nigeria in Port Harcourt in an international friendly match. Ahmed Musa’s first half penalty and a second half volley by debutant, Simon Moses, were all the Nigerian side needed to cheer the home fans at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday evening. Sunday Oliseh The Nigerian coach, who was all smiles after the match, has now expressed maximum satisfaction with the way his players dispatched the Mena stars of Niger. But for some poor officiating calls by the referee, the Nigerian side would have been two or three goals up by half time. Oliseh, speaking after the win, said: “We won playing organised, and that was very cheering for us. “We didn’t just want to play the Nigeriens but we wanted to play for ourselves, that was exactly what we did today. I must give kudos to the players for their performance today. “We corrected the mistakes that we made last weekend and the result is the outcome of the things we discussed after the Tanzania game.” Moses got the second goal for Nigeria in an encounter clearly dominated by the home side and Oliseh was quick to make reference to his performance. He said: “He is a very strong player but he still has a long way to go. “We are getting better, we were more organised after losing the ball which was a very important important aspect of our game.” On if he can assure Nigerians of AFCON qualification, the former Eagles skipper noted that Nigerians would be left to judge their performances after a while. “We will give our best and allow them judge.” He also had cheering news for Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and other players who seemed to have lost their place in the team. “There is room for everybody, but the players who are here already have points and anyone who is coming will have to fight for their shirt. Nobody is irreplaceable,” he warned.

Ambali assures staff on 2015 promotion exercise

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has assured the University staff that the 2015 promotion exercise would be conducted and concluded on schedule despite seeming delay in the process. Prof. Ambali gave the assurance last Friday (September 4, 2015) through the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, who represented him at the closing ceremony of the training programme for the University technologists. More than 80 Technologists I and II participated in the two-week programme. “ I can assure you, even if it is two days to the October 1st effective date for promotion, we shall conclude the process”, the Registrar said while responding to questions from the participants. He added, “This administration is committed to career development of staff. On-going efforts are to emphasise training and re-training of staff, to increase productivity and efficiency”. While noting that the Vice-Chancellor has said several times that he is committed to sustaining excellence that this university is known for and the academic stability culture that we have been achieving for several years, Mr. Obafemi added that he, as the Registrar, has no choice but to support the Vice-Chancellor to achieve these noble objectives. He urged member of staff to play their own part, saying, “I will just appeal to those due for promotion this year to be steady because our procedure will remain very thorough but faster”. Earlier in his paper entitled, “Administrative Protocol”, the Registrar had called attention to critical sections of the new Condition of Service particularly the line of communication and university organogram. He advised staff to always respect and honour their immediate superior officers, no matter how connected, brilliant or skillful they may be. “Don't slight your immediate bosses. If you do, when you need them, you may not get help”, he stressed, adding that “if you need to see the Unit Head, say the Chief Technologist or Senior Technologist as the case may be, approach senior officers ahead of you. Take their inputs, even if verbally, it may help”. The Registrar further explained that “before administrative protocol can be defined, there has to be an established organogram”, addting that “in this university, our organogram is a top-bottom (in terms of instructions) and bottom-top (in terms of reporting). It shows layers of officers saddled with varying degrees of responsibilities and assignments”. “This is why it is dangerous to jump protocols in reporting or requesting for assistance because of private contacts and connections. If you do that, you create disaffection and enmity between yourself and your immediate bosses and expose yourself to others as someone without decorum” , he said. Mr. Obafemi further counseled that, “what God will make of you, He will. However, He will not jump down from heaven physically because of anyone. It is the people He has put around you that He will use. So, don't complain that you are the only one being used by your boss. May be he has seen a potential in you he wants to showcase”. The Register also admonished the Unit Heads to try others. “Whatever the situation, nobody is absolutely useless and nobody is indispensable. What if he is sick?, he asked, adding that “let people make mistakes and learn. In the Registry, I can go to sleep. I have no problem. There was a time I was away for three weeks, no single panic moment because people know what they should do. We had spent much time on training and re-training ourselves”. “I don't want a situation whereby my absence will create confusion or stagnancy. Life must go on. Very soon, everybody will move a step forward and more people will join. However, I am not saying you should become irrelevant. No! But develop a system that works with or without your physical presence”, he further said. Cautioning staff against god-fatherism, the Registrar noted that “positions in the University are tenured and temporal. Some last for two years others for five. However, your career will span decades. Why then hurt your future”, he queried, advising staff to “be dedicated to their jobs since no godfather will be happy to help a godson with poor report of truancy, lateness, insubordination, inefficiency, and poor behavioural attitude. Remember godfathers can help secure jobs but will not help do the work”. Mr. Obafemi then charged the Technologists, “Now that you know the university organogram, now that you know the defined channel of communication, let it not be said of you that you are breaking the rules”. Certificates of attendance were presented to the participants during the event that was witnessed by the Deputy Director, Centre for Research Development and In-House Training (CREDIT), Dr. J.A. Bamiduro; the Chairman, National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), University of Ilorin Chapter, Mr. P. A. Oddiah; the Chairman, Training of Technologists Committee, Mr. Israel Babatope Adewole and others who served as resources persons like Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, Dr M. K. Bello, Mrs V. Awopetu and Mr. J. O. Oyetunji.

Bailout: Masari Gulls Buhari To Get N11 Billion

President Muhammadu Buhari has been reportedly mislead by Aminu Masari, the governor of Katsina state, where the president hails from. Governor Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, Katsina state The charade by the governor was done with the aim of obtaining N11 billion bailout, stipulated to pay salary arrears for workers in the state. According to an investigation by Premium Times, Katsina state feigned insolvency and applied as one of the 27 states in need of bailout from the federal government to pay workers owed salaries for months. Masari, in a letter to the speaker of the state’s House of Assembly titled: “Bailout on Outstanding Salary for Workers of the State and Local Governments” with number S/SGKT/154/3, dated August 26, 2015, said that as of the time he resumed office in May 29, his government inherited two months outstanding salary of workers of the state and local government from the previous administration led by Ibrahim Shema. The governor stated in the letter that the state and local governments in Katsina, owed workers two months’ salary to the tune of N11,086,632,741.32. According to Premium Times, a breakdown of the debt showed that Katsina state owed a sum of N3,646,943,099.80; while the 34 local government councils were indebted to the tone of N7,439,689,641.32; giving a sum total of N11,086,632,741.32. Masari said: “It is in the view of the need for the State Government and Local Governments to meet their obligation in the payment of outstanding workers’ salary, considering the lean resources inherited from the former administration, that it has become necessary for the State Government to apply for the bail out on behalf of the State and Local Governments.” However, the recent investigation revealed that the state had no business being among the group of insolvent states in need of federal bailout to pay workers salary arrears. The report shows that Katsina state civil servants, as well as workers in the state’s 34 local governments, as of May 2015 when Masari became governor, had received their full salaries and allowances. Abdul Labaran, a press spokesman to the state, said the Katsina state workers were not owed and their salaries were completely paid up to August. Expressing surprise at the development, Oluwabusola Olawale, a former media aide of the immediate past governor, Ibrahim Shema, was quoted as saying: “Throughout the tenure of Ibrahim Shema, workers’ salaries were paid latest on the 25th of every month. As at May both the state and local government salaries were paid on the 25th. So he left office without owing any worker any salary. So this news is strange to us. We don’t know what could have necessitated this letter.” He said: “There is definitely no justification to ask for a bailout of two months salary.” Meanwhile, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state has been accused by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of diverting for private use, the bailout fund which was received from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The PDP alleged that Aregbesola lodged the sum of N34.988 billion bailout fund which the state received from the CBN in an unspecified commercial bank. It is the fear of the party that the suffering of the state workers and pensioners who have to go through hardships due to non-payment of what is due to them will continue. This allegation is coming amid calls by various groups that Aregbesola must be probed. It is recalled that President Buhari authorised the N338 billion federal bailout, paid by the CBN, to help insolvent states that had failed to pay workers for months, a loan which is to be repaid with an interest of nine per cent over a 20-year period. By August 31, Kwara, Zamfara and Osun states received the bailout to clear their backlogs of salaries, an aid which not less than 27 states are expected to receive.

INEC to end PVCs transfers in Kogi, Bayelsa on Oct. 6

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it would end all transfer cases of voters in Kogi and Bayelsa ahead of governorship polls in both states, on Oct. 6 and Oct. 20, respectively. The commission stated this in its daily bulletin issued on Monday in Abuja and said that the deadline was necessary following its directive that all transfers of voters must be concluded 45 days to an election. Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections have been scheduled to hold on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5, respectively. The commission explained that the 45 days deadline was to enable it to effect the integration of the transferred names into the register of voters in each of the states. According to it, the register of voters is to be certified and published not later than 30 days to an election. "A person who has relocated to another place outside the (polling) unit in which he/she registered cannot vote in his/her new location unless he/she transfers his/her registration," it said. The commission therefore advised any voter who intends to transfer his/her registration to write an application to INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kogi or Bayelsa. ``The application should be written through the Electoral Officer of the local government area where he/she is currently residing. "Such an application should contain the current address of the applicant. This will assist the commission in allocating the Polling Unit (PU) nearest to him/her," it said. It added that the applicant should attach a photocopy of his/her Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to the application.

I will name my cabinet this month - President Buhari reassures

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday reassured Nigerians and the international community that he would name his cabinet before the end of the month. A statement issued by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said the president gave the reassurance in Aburi, Ghana, at a joint press conference with President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana. ``After I was sworn-in, I said I will have my cabinet in September. I expect that Nigerians should ask me questions after the 30th of September if I do not do so,’’ President Buhari was qouted as saying while responding to a question on the appointment of ministers. Buhari also told reporters that the Nigerian military, in collaboration with the Multi-National Joint Task Force, had recorded remarkable progress in the fight against Boko Haram since he assumed office as President. ``The first thing I did after I came into office was to reorganise the military and clear orders were given to them in terms of retraining, re-equipping and redeployment of troops. ``In the northeast, the military is gaining ground and Boko Haram has been limited to the Sambisa forest. ``Internally Displaced Persons are gradually moving back home and they are being reintegrated into their respective communities,’’ he said. On the declaration of assets, the President affirmed that it was a constitutional requirement that all public office holders in Nigeria should declare their assets before and after their term in office. ``I recall that in 1975 when late Murtala Mohammed became the Head of State, we were lined up - governors, ministers, members of the Supreme Military Council. Officials of Ministry of Justice were brought and every individual was made to declare his assets. ``All Heads of States and Government, governors, ministers, permanent secretaries have to declare their assets because it is a constitutional requirement. ``I have declared my assets four times. When I was governor in 1975, I declared. After being Minister of Petroleum and as a member of Supreme Military Council, I declared. When I was Head of State and now as a President, I have also declared,’’ president Buhari said. President Mahama, according to the statement, had informed the reporters that both leaders had fruitful discussions on how to enhance bilateral relations and improve regional security. Mahama said that Nigeria and Ghana would soon begin the process of reviving their joint commission for cooperation. The Ghanaian President added that both leaders also agreed to encourage closer cooperation between the intelligence and anti-graft agencies of both countries. He thanked President Buhari for his visit and assured him of Ghana’s support and cooperation with Nigeria in the fight against terourism.

Be wary of fraudsters, admission seekers advised

The Admission Officer of the University of Ilorin, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, has advised prospective admission seekers to be wary of people of dubious character, saying that, anybody requesting for any payment to process admission into the University should be regarded as a fraudster. Mr. Alfanla gave this advice last Tuesday (September 1, 2015) while featuring on a Yoruba programme entitled “Oro to n lo” on Unilorin 89.3 FM, pointed out that admission is not for sale at the University of Ilorin and that the management of the University would not entertain to any story emanating from such an unlawful act. While responding to a question on the cut-off mark for this year’s admission exercise, the Admission Officer held that the University Senate is yet to make any pronouncement on this, maintaining that the University always keeps to the principle of fair play and equity by only giving admission to the candidates who meet the admission requirements. Mr. Alfanla disclosed that the University would admit about 8,000 candidates for the new academic session, pointing out, however, that the University management was working towards increasing the figure. Explaining that the number of students that would be admitted for the new academic session is subject to the directive of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Mr. Alfanla appealed to governments at all levels to provide needed facilities for the nation’s universities in order to increase their carrying capacities for them to be able to admit more students. He said that the University of Ilorin had recently introduced over 13 new courses as well as created more Departments to accommodate more students into the most patronised university in Nigeria. According to him, some of the newly accredited courses include Criminology, Computer Engineering, Computer Education, and Public Administration, among others. Mr. Alfanla congratulated the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. (Mrs.) Sidikat Ijaiya, and her team, on the recent post-UTME screening exercise, which he described as “hitch-free”. He also commended the Directorate of Computer Service and Information Technology, (COMSIT) for the provision of sufficient internet access as well as the uninterrupted power supply throughout the period of the examinations.

Unilorin admission is based on merit – VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has said that all candidates seeking admission into the University would be given an equal opportunity, noting that Unilorin’s admission process is based on merit.
Prof. Ambali stated this last Monday (August 31, 2015), when he received the members of the Central Executive Council of the University Students’ Union in his office. Explaining that the number of candidates seeking admission into the University is on the high side, the Vice-Chancellor noted that this is creating a huge pressure on the system. Prof. Ambali, however, assured all admission seekers that the process would guarantee that every candidate is given equal opportunity. The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the University is raising top class graduates that are tuned to the frequency Nigeria needs. He congratulated the Students’ Union leaders on their recent election, saying that their submissions have been noted and their proposals would be looked into. Prof. Ambali used the occasion to invite the Students’ Union to be part of the forth-coming 40th anniversary celebration of the University and its 31st Convocation programme coming up in October. Charging the students to continue to be well-behaved and interact more with the Dean of Student Affairs, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Together we can build the University of our dream; See your present position as a training ground for the future but don’t allow it to override your academic career”. Earlier in his address, the President of the Students’ Union, Comrade Alao Idris Ibrahim, pledged the students’ union’s commitment to redouble its support for the management of the University in the new academic session. Commending the University management’s efforts on students’ welfare, the student leader praised the administration for the stable electricity and water supplies on the campus. He stressed that the students’ body would do everything possible to support the upcoming 40th anniversary and 31st Convocation activities of the University.
